AdventuresScary Thunderstorm

Batten Down the Hatches, its coming

It had been a hot day , and we’d just gotten back from an afternoon at the beach. It was refreshing to feel a bit of cool breeze coming in. I went in for a shower, and was alarmed to see how dark that sky had suddenly gotten.

I had to make a decision – take refuge in the shower house or run for it. And it would be quite a run, but knew I’d have a good solid truck to hide in, once I got there. Did I mention there was already lightning and thunder. I took the run and was almost back to my site when the downpour started. I headed straight for the cab; not wanting to even risk being up in the camper. This was intense

It felt like the wind grabbing onto the camper was going to make the whole thing tip over. And now there was hail too. Its at these times you start remembering all the stories of trees cashing down , crushing vehicles and lighting striking hydro lines. causing an explosion. And of course, tornados come to mind.

And then it was over…at least the worst part. The sky had settling into a lighter rain.

I was able get out an survey the soaked lawnchairs standing in puddles. The towels from the clothesline were plastered into the muddy ground.

Water was runnining in rivulets down the streets, and kids were out splashing in the muddy water. All in all, it was pretty cool, and the air felt clean and clean again. It was ging to be a good sleep tonight.

We had just enough of the day left for the sun’s rays to present us with this beautiful rainbow. The shower house had a dramatiicly different background now..
