Adventures – A Super easy campfire

Sometimes you just need it simple.

I enjoy the pleasure of a cozy campfire in the evening, but its more for the ambiance, as opposed to its necessity for cooking supper.

After an afternoon of hot sun at the beach, I don’t feel much like skulking around in search of kindling, or like getting more sweaty while chopping firewood.

I always pack some of those ornamental fire of logs fireplace logs that you can get around Christmas time and I carry them with me in case I can’t get real wood. I also bring a portable barbeque that I can line with tinfoil and use as a mini contained fire. When the designated fire-pit is to close the my neighbors and it feels like its in their campsite instead of mine; this allows me to have just a little cozy private fire.

Real Firewood is difficult to pack because it leaves little crispy chunks all over your car which you don’t want in the bedding. Also, it burns fast, so you need lots of it. As as result, my supply is often already used up, or there was not room to pack it.

Anyway, sometimes there’s no firewood around to be had. I don’t think I would cook on these logs, but it’s still nice to have for that ambiance.  Fire logs pack small and they burn long.

Sometimes I even throw in one of those Magic Fire packets and enjoy the extra-colourful flames.

These come in a pack of 6.  Each log burns from 3-5 hours.

Fire logs are so easy:

  • Super portable and light weight

  • Easy to light

  • Less messy. There’s isn’t bark left all over the car.

  • There is very little mess to clean up afterward – not to mention bugs hitchiking along!

  • Safety.   There’s little chance of growing one of those out-of-control infernos

  • One log lasts up to 3 hours so its easy estimate how much you’ll need

  • Less smoke and less waste

  • Environmentally friendly

  • No Axes or saws needed!

Don’t forget Matches

Yep, and always bring spare matches even if you think you have some packed. We had to get a kind neighbor to help us light our fire because the book of matches we counted on was damp. Did finally get a good fire going though and it was quite wonderful.

Lighter

A long-handled lighter is handy too.

And Fire Starter

I save those grease-soaked paper towels from cooking bacon. They make excellent fire-starters, and are easily stored in zip-lock bags.

And you avoid this scenario.

Not my campsite, by the way. I think the neighbors got in trouble for that one.
